At that volume the flat rate is cheaper than per-GB hosting across the published range. The recurring $3,250 holds up to the 2 TB of storage included, with ingestion quoted above 1 TB. Where the flat rate wins, and where it does not.

Per-GB figures use published market ranges and our own assumptions. How these figures are worked out. Run it on your own numbers.

Fees we don't charge

We charge one flat fee per private instance. Most eDiscovery invoices are built from line items. Eight of them never appear on ours, and ingest processing is one flat fee.

A team of 6 pays $450 to $750 a month in seat fees alone on those rate cards. On Kavarn, enjoy no user fees.

The comparison figures come from providers' own public rate cards on Washington State contract No. 10521 (contract 10521). Not every line favors us: support beyond the 8 included hours is $290 an hour, above the $105 to $175 an hour some providers charge for project management. Every rate we charge is on the price sheet. There is no per-user fee and no limit on named users. Each standard instance is sized for about 100 people working at the same time; firms that regularly need more can add a second instance.

What a reviewer sees

Document review, coding and metadata on one screen, with the document itself rendered in the browser rather than downloaded.

A document review screen. The left rail lists the matter and its data zones. A review decisions panel holds tags, responsiveness, importance, privilege and confidentiality fields, and an issues row whose tags include one labelled redact. The document renders in the center at page one of fourteen. A metadata panel on the right lists document ID, custodian, Bates number, filename, path, type, extension, file size and processing status.

Where the flat rate wins, and where it does not

Most platforms bill by volume, so the number on your invoice depends on how much data the other side dumps on you. The honest comparison is all-in against all-in: per-GB billing is hosting plus reviewer licenses plus processing plus project management, charged across every open matter, and the flat rate includes all of it.

You cannot forecast it

Per-GB hosting means a matter that doubles in volume doubles in cost, months after you quoted the client a number. The calculator shows where the break-even sits for your own volume and term.

You cannot compare it

Processing, hosting, users, productions and exports are priced separately and quoted privately, so two proposals rarely line up on the same axis. The Fee Field Guide decodes all 19 of them, and the four models in general use are set out by what each one meters.

You share the application

On a shared platform, every firm's matters run inside one application. Kavarn gives your firm its own instance. More on the security page.

Break-even sits at roughly 130–400 GB across all active matters for a firm with 6 users. Under that, per-gigabyte billing is cheaper and we will tell you so on the call. Over it, the gap widens with every custodian the other side adds and every reviewer you bring on, and the flat rate does not move.

Where these figures come from

The comparison assumes 6 reviewers, 4 hours of project management a month and an 18-month matter, priced against published rate cards for seats and project management, a published market range for hosting, and a working assumption for processing. Which figure rests on which, and what changed when one of them was sourced, is set out in the methodology note on the pricing page.

The whole workflow, on infrastructure that answers to you

Each firm runs on its own dedicated instance built on Konvergence Archimedes. The case hierarchy maps onto litigation directly: a top-level data zone is a case, its child zones are the data stores inside it.

Ingest›Process›Cull›Review›Analyze›Produce

A private, dedicated instance

16 vCPU, 16 GB RAM and 2 TB NVMe provisioned for your firm alone, invite-only, with daily automated backups. Scale up on 24 hours' notice.

Defensible by architecture, not by policy

Each tracked action is timestamped and hashed into an immutable audit log, so chain of custody comes from how the system records work rather than from a policy document.

Deduplication that is intrinsic

Content-addressed storage resolves identical files to a single hash, so deduplication is a property of how data is stored rather than a processing step.

Questions we get asked frequently

How long does it take to get running?

An instance is provisioned within 24 to 48 hours of the agreement. Migration time depends on the volume and condition of your existing data; we scope it in writing before onboarding starts, and a $1,725 rush fee, in addition to the ingestion fee, applies only if you ask us to compress the schedule.

What happens to our data if we leave?

You may export in the agreed formats, including load files and native originals with metadata intact, and we then delete the data and decommission the instance and its network under a documented process. There is no exit fee and no hostage period.

Does the price change if a matter gets bigger?

The platform rate does not. Storage can be increased on your instance as needed rather than metered: the instance includes 2 TB to start, and a firm that needs more adds it in fixed monthly steps rather than paying per gigabyte. On a running instance, bandwidth is the only meter, at 10 TB included per month and $60 per TB beyond it, or a committed bundle at a lower rate. Matters that are finished but must be kept can move to archive storage at $4 per GB per month. Additional instances can be added to the network as needed, for example beyond about 100 people working at the same time. If the question is how big a matter really is, the guide to how many pages are in a gigabyte sets it out by file type.

Can we meet an opposing party's ESI protocol?

We would go over this in an initial walkthrough. We cover the requirements an ESI protocol usually sets, against a live instance: production formats, Bates conventions, load-file specifications, metadata fields and privilege-log structure. Every term is defined in the glossary.

Who can see our matter data?

Your firm decides who on your side sees it: access is granted per data zone by email invitation, with role-based permissions. Konvergence senior support staff also hold administrative access to every instance by default, for customer service. Additional security and encryption schemes can be discussed and quoted on request.

Is there a per-user charge?

No. It is a platform license for your own private instance on its own network, with no seat limit, so adding reviewers, paralegals, contract attorneys or staff to a matter does not change the invoice. Additional instances can be added to the network as needed, for example beyond about 100 people working at the same time.
